Job Description

About the Role

Construction Co. Inc. is seeking a driven and experienced Development Officer to join our growing team in La Crosse, WI. In this senior-level role, you will serve as a key driver of business growth, forging strategic partnerships and securing the funding and client relationships that fuel our project pipeline. You will play a central role in shaping the company's market presence across the region, working alongside leadership to identify new opportunities and translate them into long-term value.

As a seasoned development professional, you will lead efforts that span business development, client engagement, and fundraising initiatives — ensuring Construction Co. Inc. remains competitive and well-positioned in an evolving AEC marketplace. Your work will directly influence the types of projects we pursue, the communities we serve, and the legacy we build across La Crosse and the surrounding region.

This is an on-site, full-time position that requires a collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset and a deep understanding of the construction and development landscape. You will work closely with project managers, estimators, and executive leadership to align business development strategies with operational capabilities and company goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to expand Construction Co. Inc.'s client base and project portfolio across commercial, institutional, and infrastructure sectors.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, including identifying funding sources, cultivating donor and investor relationships, and managing grant or capital campaign efforts relevant to development projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, developers, municipalities, architects, and engineers to generate qualified project leads and repeat business opportunities.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and community engagements to strengthen brand visibility and professional networks in the La Crosse market.
  • Prepare and present compelling proposals, qualifications packages, and responses to RFPs and RFQs in coordination with internal teams.
  • Track and manage the business development pipeline using CRM tools, providing regular reporting and forecasting to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with estimating and project management teams to ensure pursuit strategies align with the company's capacity, expertise, and delivery capabilities.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and regional development opportunities to inform strategic planning and positioning.
  • Support contract negotiations and assist in the transition of new clients from pursuit to project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Marketing, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or fundraising — preferably within the AEC or real estate development industry.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving sales targets, closing contracts, and growing client relationships in a competitive market.
  • Proven experience with fundraising strategies, including capital campaigns, grant writing, or investor relations in a development context.
  • Strong understanding of construction project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and CMAR.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing RFP responses, presentations, and proposals.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and standard business tools including Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established professional network within the La Crosse, WI region and broader Wisconsin AEC community.
  • Familiarity with AIA contract documents, ConsensusDocs, and public procurement processes.
  • Experience with project management platforms such as Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • DBIA, LEED GA, or other relevant AEC industry certifications.
  • Background in public-private partnership (P3) or municipal development funding programs.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Compensation: A senior-level salary commensurate with experience, with performance-based incentives tied to business development success.
  • Health Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage to support your well-being and that of your family.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Company-supported retirement savings to help you plan confidently for the future.
  • Professional Growth: Access to industry conferences, continuing education, and leadership development opportunities within a growing firm.
  • Impactful Work: The opportunity to shape projects that directly contribute to the built environment and economic vitality of the La Crosse community.
